Around The World in 80 Days (Respun)
St. Paul’s Juniors/Adapted by Paul Birch with apologies to Jules Verne/Directed by Jonathan Boutead/2017
Around the World in 80 Days (Respun) is an affectionate parody of the Jules Verne novel. A race against time, nature and a bumbling detective in order to uphold honour, to discover love and to ride an elephant along the way.
The young cast must juggle an extraordinary array of costumes and disguises whilst also creating the various vehicles and assorted characters in each section. Often they operate as an heroic chorus who comedically comment on and construct each section of the narrative.
The action is frantic and the pace frenetic as Around the World in 80 Days is re-spun in only 60 minutes. Fast dialogue and faster action all must be performed at a dizzyingly silly speed.
