The Write Stuff: Playwriting Course

York Theatre Royal/Designed and Facilitated by Paul Birch/Assisted by Lydia Crosland/ Two ten-week courses (Autumn 2022 & January 2023) in partnership with the RSC’s 37 Plays project. These Monday afternoon courses had a particular focus on Writing and Well-being and are completely sold out.

INCREASE YOUR CREATIVITY AND SELF-EXPRESSION

Our new supportive playwriting course will give you the tools to increase your creativity and self-expression in daily life. Over the weeks we will introduce different techniques, structures and concepts helping you to discover your own creative writing style. This fun course demystifies the tools and tricks behind great plays and supports participants to discover their dramatic potential in a way that suits them.

The course has been designed after our successful collaboration with York Mind. Our previous Theatre for Wellbeing course emphasised the positive effect of meaningful creative experiences on self-care and wellbeing. These fun and accessible sessions are built around the needs of the group and all questions and ideas are welcome.

We are also excited that we are partnering with the Royal Shakespeare Company for the 37 Plays project. So, if you fancy following in Shakespeare’s footsteps there will be also an option to create, craft and submit your work to the RSC. This is completely optional, however, and there will be no pressure to do so during the course.

If you have never written before but want to give it a try please join us. The course is for adults who would benefit from the chance to explore and develop their playwriting in a supportive and free environment. We just know that you are made of the Right Stuff to Write Stuff and we would love you to come along…

Workshops will be delivered by Paul Birch, local playwright, and Lydia Crosland, Community Connector at YTR.

Contact lydia.crosland@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk if you would like to have a conversation.

Sessions will take place on Mondays from 1pm to 3pm. Participants can only sign up to one term, either in the autumn or spring – just book for the start date of your choice.

Autumn: 19 Sep – 28 Nov 2022 (exc. 24 Oct)

Spring: 9 Jan – 20 March 2023 (exc. 13 Feb)
